Goodbye, Good Buy! (And Good Riddance)

We’ve all heard the saying, “My loss is your gain.”  And your gains just got bigger!  70% bigger, in fact!

Right now, and only until this Saturday, April 23rd, you can save 70% on flood damaged merchandise in our retail store!

The 18” to 36” of water that swept through our store on February 28 left a huge mess in its wake.  Merchandise of every description floated around the store.  That includes giant pickle crocks (that must weigh more than 20 lbs) and full-size refrigerators.  Mud, corn stalks and other farm runoff covered every flat surface less than two feet from the floor with up ½” of slime.

It was our loss.  For the last month, we’ve cleaned, squeegeed and sorted.  At one point, we had two large rooms…as big as an average sized home…full of merchandise, all marked 50% off.  That’s well below our cost, in case you’re wondering.

And, the old saying is true.  Our loss is your gain.  Most of that merchandise didn’t have a whole lot wrong with it.

Just a few days ago, I talked to some women buying plates (at 70% off).  Their shopping baskets were already full of other items (also 70% off).

“There’s nothing wrong with these plates,” they said. “They’re just dirty.”

Flood-damaged merchandise awaits sorting in our stove department.

And, they were right.  A good wash and those plates would be good as new. (If you want to know why we don’t just clean them ourselves, see my note in the “PS” below.)

We’re down to one room now…about 800 square feet…of discounted merchandise.  Because it’s been picked over, we dropped the price from 50% off to 70% off.  It’s a great time to visit and grab a bargain, before we run out.

Because our patience IS running out.  This past Saturday, I talked to my friend Eddie, who works in our stove department.  He looked tired.

“I just want to get back to normal,” he said.  (By the way, there are still 15 or 20 wood stoves and other appliances left at special flood sale prices, too.)

We all just want to get back to normal.  That’s why I titled this blog, “Goodbye, good buy!”  The good buys are going goodbye.

We’re starting to think, “Goodbye and good riddance!”  That dirty, formerly wet merchandise will be here just a few more days.  Then, what’s left will go to a local charity.  And the 70% off flood sale bargains will be gone forever.

PS – Are you wondering why we don’t just clean the merchandise up ourselves and sell it for full price? That’s a good question!  And there are two answers.  First, there was too much of it.  We would have been cleaning for months!  And, second, we just didn’t feel right cleaning items up and then claiming they’d never been in that dirty water.  When folks visit our store, they expect to by first rate, “never been in dirty water,” good as new merchandise. So, we’re selling it all, as is, at big discounts.  Don’t forget, up to 70% off!  Our loss is your gain!

  1. I wish I could come, I have to work and the 4 hour drive is not possible with that. Good luck

  2. I’m finally able to bring my family for a visit but we won’t be there until Monday the 25th. We’ll be celebrating our 7th anniversary on Sunday the 24th and staying in Sugarcreek at the Carlisle Inn. We’re excited about visiting Lehmans on Monday. Hopefully, there will be a few things left then. We’re looking forward to the adventure.
