‘Twas The Night Before Christmas…In Our Store

store-at-christmas1‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through our store
Every creature was stirring, wrapping gifts and more.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that Lehman’s goodies would soon be there.

The customers were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of butter churns, danced in their heads.
My family was ready to send out their presents
And had just settled down to a dinner of pheasant.

When in the village of Kidron there arose such a clatter
We sprang from the store to see what was the matter
Away to the square we flew like a flash
And ran around the buggies to avoid any crash

Gave the lustre of midday to the objects below.
When what to our wondering eyes should appear,
But a truck full of presents, and each gift so dear.

And a little old driver, so lively and glad
I knew in a moment it must be Jay Lehman, my dad
The gifts were all piled in the bed of the truck
And he whistled and shouted and described them by name.

For homesteaders and homeschoolers
For the camper and farmer
For gardeners and pet lovers
For children and grandparents

Searching for a simpler life
One with less stress and less strife
The presents were sure to delight
Each person on Christmas night

He was wearing blue jeans
That were worn at the knees
His eyes how they twinkled – his hair so shiny
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry

His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow
And the beard on his chin was as white as the snow
The base of a pen, he held in his hand
He crossed off his list, from sea unto land

store-at-christmas-5He looked so happy, a right jolly elf
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself
He spoke not a word, but when straight to his work.
And fulfilled all the wishes, just one of the perks.

He turned and smiled, wishing us luck
But I heard him exclaim ‘ere he drove out of sight,
“Happy Christmas to all and to all a good night.”
