Building Off The Grid? We Want To Hear From You!

off grid cabinDo you dream of building your home off the grid, miles from power lines? Would you love to live off the land, planting, harvesting and preserving your home-grown food?  Do you want to escape the chaos of the modern world and live a simpler, more satisfying life?

Then you, my friend, are in the right place. Founded by my father, Jay Lehman, in 1955 to serve the local Amish, today Lehman’s carries everything you need for heat, food, light and water, even when you are miles from traditional power sources.

We have customers that make their homes overseas, on mountains or islands, or on remote properties, where they live an understandable, sustainable life.chopping wood

If this is your dream, and you are ready to make it a reality, allow me to suggest that you apply for the DIY Network’s show, Building Off the Grid. This documentary follows the process of building an off-the-grid home from the challenges of getting materials to the remote site (by horse, ATV or helicopter, etc.), dealing with unpredictable weather and wildlife, and taking on the geographical obstacles of the build site itself. And behind every off-the-grid home is a team of intrepid builders who adapt and persevere through the unique and remarkable challenges each build presents.

If interested, please contact Katie Fimple at kfimple@dorseytv.com.  Here’s a link to the show’s website: “Building off the Grid.”  The casting call form is below.

But hey, even if being on the show doesn’t interest you, we would still like to hear from you.  Tell us about your journey to a simpler life at glenda.ervin@lehmans.com – maybe your picture will make it on the front of our catalog.

Happy Homesteading!
