It seems like wedding invitations are coming thick and fast to the Johnson household. We have three already, and I know there are more to come. (And don’t even get me started on the graduation announcements!)
It’s going to be a busy spring and summer for us, and I want to make sure that we’re giving gifts that will be useful and last!
While I was mulling over what do the other night, I was making dinner. I realized that I was using a Rada parer, one that my cousin Debbie had given me as gift when I was married in 1994. She gave me the Meal Prep Gift Set too.
There it was, a simple answer. If I’d been using (and loving) these great, American-made knives for so long, other folks would too.
It’s an obvious choice for couples starting out married life together. (I know, there’s an old wives’ tale about not giving the couple gifts that cut, so the marriage bonds have time to ‘set.’ But these knives are SO useful and practical, I think they outweigh that old story.)
And I love knives as a not-ordinary choice for college grads who are about to set up housekeeping for the first time–they’ll need everything! Why not something this thoughtful and practical to boot?
Rada knives keep their edge forever, and the veggie peeler is just wonderful. I don’t know how many pounds of carrots, potatoes and apples I’ve cleaned with that thing, and it’s just as good now as the first time I used it nearly 20 years ago.
They’re easy to care for too: hand wash with soap and water, and wipe dry (carefully!) with a soft towel. I like my knives extra sharp, so I sharpen them every two months or so, and that chore takes no time at all with the Rada’s blades. They stay smooth and seem to resist nicking. After 20 years of hard use, I’ve yet to take a chunk out of one.
Rada–it’s just become my go-to choice!
