- Bring water (and milk, if using) to a boil.
- Add oats and turn down to medium heat; stir occasionally. It will start to thicken and after 5-10 minutes, check for doneness. It should have a nice thick texture and not be runny.
- Add in salt and sweeten to taste. Eat as is or add toppings.
