Inexpensive Sponge Cake

Delicious with sliced summer fruit – strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, peaches, etc.


Units Scale
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 T butter, melted
  • 1 c. boiling milk
  • 2 c. sifted flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder


  1. Preheat your oven to 350°.
  2. Grease and flour a 9×13 oblong pan.
  3. Mix flour and baking powder in a separate bowl and set aside.
  4. Beat eggs with beater till very light. Beat in sugar, salt and vanilla.
  5. Add butter and boiled milk.
  6. Quickly beat in flour mixture while milk is hot.
  7. Immediately pour into prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes or until cake tests done. Serve with fresh fruit (like strawberries!)
