The news reports are everywhere–influenza is hitting hard this winter. According to the Center for Disease Control, “by January 11, 2013, flu activity was high across most of the United States. It is not possible to predict when the season will peak or how severe the 2012-2013 season will be, but based on past experience, it’s likely that flu activity will continue for some time.”

Please take every sensible precaution during this flu season. News reports out today (January 15, 2013) indicate that the season may be on the downswing, but be aware that a typical flu season runs from late November to mid-March. The CDC notes that flu activity in a active season can run as late as May.
Common-sense practices include, but aren’t limited to:
- frequent hand washing
- keep ‘contact surfaces‘ like doorknobs, spigot handles, etc., clean
- cover coughs and sneezes (or sneeze into the elbow)
- Keep to a healthy diet
- Get plenty of rest
