How to Make Refrigerator Sweet Pickles

Grab the cucumbers. Today we’re making pickles!

Refrigerator pickles are easy to make, and they’re a great way to use up those cucumbers from your garden. With some simple boiling and mixing, you’ll have instant pickles.

The recipe I use, as well as my whole family, comes from my dear grandmother (now 95 years young). My grandma is an amazing cook. Growing up in the Depression era, she has always been thrifty with what she has, and this valuable skill carries through her cooking.

Recipe for Refrigerator Sweet Pickles

My grandma has been making refrigerator pickles long before I came along. When I was younger, she’d always drop off a container of freshly made pickles, and my siblings and I would gobble them up that same day. Now it’s a summer tradition for my family to make Grandma’s pickles.

If you like your pickles a little sweet, then this recipe is sure to delight! All you need is seven simple ingredients, many of them you probably already have on hand.

Crunchy Refrigerator Pickles

  • Total Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 C. white sugar
  • 1 C. white vinegar
  • 7 C. sliced cucumbers
  • 1 C. minced or diced onion
  • 1 C. diced green peppers
  • 2 T. salt
  • 1 T. celery salt.

Instructions

Boil together white sugar and white vinegar. When cooled, mix with the rest of the ingredients and put in the refrigerator for at least a few hours before eating. Taste improves as pickles stand.

Notes

Helpful Hint: Just like with any recipe, the fresher the food, the better results you’ll have. I highly recommend using cucumbers right from the garden or cucumbers from a local farmer’s market.

Hello there, I love pickles. My question is, does the ‘T’ for salt in the recipe mean tablespoon or teaspoon?
Many Thanks
