I have given the concept of community a lot of thought in the last couple of months. As I ponder the meaning of community, I had to google the definition. According to Merriam-Websters web site the definition that seems most pertinent would have to be:
1b: people with common interests living in a particular area
Of Course a “particular area” can refer to a geographical location, such as a neighborhood, town, city, etc.
Lehman’s support of the local community in Kidron Ohio, has been going on for over 50 years. The support that Lehman’s provides is sponsorship of events and the participation in the community by the Lehman family and employees of Lehman’s.
Couldn’t a “particular area” also refer to the Internet? Aren’t we all apart of a large and diverse community being brought together in cyberspace?
This blog (Lehman’s Country Life) was started last year with the hope of providing a community on the internet for people that have a common interests. Considering the membership of Lehman’s Country Life, that has and still is happening. The community is maintained through the use of Lehman’s Front Porch Newsletter and the ability of members to post comments on the blog. Lehman’s Country Life also provides a link to resources on the Internet that are of interest to the members of the community.
The Internet continues to provide us with different avenues to maintain a connection with our community. A fascinating avenue that has been available for a few years that Lehman’s has begun to support is social networking. Many of Lehman’s employees already participate in this incredible community maintaining a wonderful connection with each other through Facebook.
According to Facebooks “About” page:
Facebook gives people the power to share and makes the world more open and connected.
Recently Facebook began allowing “Pages” to be posted:
Facebook Pages, allow local businesses, sports teams, artists, films, brands, public figures, non-profits and other business organizations to have a presence on Facebook.
Lehman’s has built a Page on Facebook and invites you to join us.
