There can sometimes be a lull in the fun after the holidays. The weather is cold and icy, and the fun of Christmas is in the rearview mirror. Those days spent inside can be a bummer, especially when they stretch on and on for weeks. It’s even more tough to get through those days with little ones in the house. January slush, rain, and ice can get anyone down. That’s why I like to plan indoor games and fun activities, so I don’t dread the days stuck inside. A recipe for a fun day inside, when the weather is frightful:
- A fun craft
- A blanket fort
- Puzzles and games
- Cozy atmosphere
- Plenty of snacks
- Movies to wind down
Make a Craft
Crafts are a great way to entertain kids while getting in on the fun yourself. I like to spend my days inside making jewelry out of polymer clay. Before I know it, hours have passed, and I didn’t notice because I was so focused on my craft! Some fun crafts you can get for this snowy season on Lehman’s.com are the traditional potholder kit, the “build your own birdhouse” kit, the Spicebox friendship bracelet kit, the introduction to Chinese brush painting kit, and many more. Check it out at Lehmans.com.
Build a Blanket Fort
Blanket forts are a lot of fun to make, and when they’re done, you have a fun new place to make snacks, games, and movies extra fun! A great way to make a spacious blanket fort is to hang a clothesline across a room, and then use clothespins to attach the blankets and sheets to the line, to make “walls”. Anchor the blankets and sheets down with heavy objects, and you’re ready to fill your fort with pillows and games. Clotheslines and clothespins can be found here.
Try Indoor Games and Puzzles
Family games and puzzles bring us all together during bad weather. Find a comfy place (maybe inside your blanket fort!) and have a fun time playing light-hearted games. You can find tons of fun puzzles and games like bingo, Dutch Blitz, Yahtzee, and Farm-opoly.
Create a Cozy Space
A cozy atmosphere can take a snow day from dreary to merry and bright. If you have a fireplace, now is the time to get it roaring. If not, candles (electric ones work too) can create that warm glow we’re looking for. Pajamas all day, socks and slippers, and a robe to top it off. Warm drinks like hot chocolate and tea, while looking out at the snow and wind outside, makes for a comfy and cozy day.
Stock up on Snacks
Snacks are essential for the perfect snow day. Warm, hearty meals add to the coziness. Snacks like fudge, summer sausage, Amish Country popcorn, fry pies, and Arnold’s peanut brittle help pass the time deliciously. Those snacks are all available on (you guessed it!) Lehmans.com.
Have a Movie Night
Finally, when it’s dark outside and the day is coming to an end, having a movie night is a great way to wind down. A delightfully cheesy movie is a great way to relax.

Love doing all of these things with my grandsons. And they love when we visit Ohio and they can visit your store.8
