Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1/2 cup shortening / lard / butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup cherry juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup chopped maraschino cherries
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup nuts, chopped

Instructions

Mix in order of the list / bake in 350ºF oven for about 40 minutes or until an inserted knife comes out clean.

I like to put the batter in the small loaf pans (1/4 size of normal bread pan) to make individual breads for gifts.

cpthegreat,
Would dried cherries work for this recipe instead of maraschino? Just wondering. These are available around here in the bulk food stores sometimes.

Do cut EACH cherry individually or do you use a food chopper?? I just had a piece of this warm cherry nut bread and it delicious. I did NOT use the chopper but it sure would have been a time saver. beverly
