Looking for a cozy treat to enjoy solo or share with friends? I wanted something delicious for game night and found a few apples in my fridge—perfect for a coffee cake! And of course, I couldn’t resist adding a buttery streusel topping because, let’s be honest, everything is better with streusel. Give this sweet, apple-filled coffee cake a try and pair it with a warm cup of coffee for the ultimate treat. I also had recently gotten a USA made pan as well that makes the perfect loaf and I wanted to use it for this recipe.
How to Make Apple Cinnamon Streusel Coffee Cake

2. In a large bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients.

Humor intended!! Coffee cake with no coffee as a ingredient. Pictured with a cup of tea … not coffee. Major ingredient is apples ? (4-5)….. I wonder if a glass of cold milk would be acceptable?
Oh Danny, Funny! I think it’s because you’re too young. In the 50’s Coffee cake was just something mildly sweet to have after dinner With Coffee. Hence, Coffee Cake. Usually, but not always, something with apples because other fruits were not so available or too pricey. There you have it. But yes, I agree. With Tea??? Well, maybe for the tea totaler. Milk for the children, of course ;).
Nice cold glass of milk for some adults, as well!
How can maple syrup or honey be substituted for all of the sugar?
Thank you. I had forgotten about this recipe. I don’t remember ever putting chocolate chips in it though.
Denise regarding using maple syrup in recipes check with Michelle Visser at soulyrested.com she had article/podcast on maple syrup and sugar and substituting in recipes . Along with increasing or decreasing liquid.
Any idea if apple sauce might be substituted for the apples? I seldom get mushy apples in cake. I don’t prefer crispy apples in cake.
Hi Gail! The chocolate chips are optional for this recipe. We hope you enjoy!
Great question, Mickey! You can substitute apple sauce for apples, but then decrease the vegetable oil to a 1/4 cup. We hope this helps!
How long to bake if using a baking dish and not the two loaf pans?
Great question, Kathy! Depending on the size of the baking dish and how thin the cake is, we would recommend baking for 40 minutes and then doing a toothpick test, and then baking in 5-10 minute intervals until the toothpick comes out clean.
If substituting apple sauce instead of fresh apples how much applesauce do I put in. This sounds really good. Also would subbing the flour with gluten free flour mess this recipe up any
Hi there, Cliff! You can substitute applesauce for the apples. Use 1 cup chilled applesauce and decrease the vegetable oil to 1/2 cup. You can also use gluten-free flour, just make sure it has xanthan gum in it.
Danny, I am southern to the bone, sweet ice tea would be acceptable, drinking cups of hot tea will get you threw out of the south!
