The Little Red Hen and Lehman’s

One summer day, the Little Red Hen found a grain of wheat.

“A grain of wheat!” said the Little Red Hen to herself. “I will plant it.”

She asked the duck, the goose, the cat and the pig: “Who will help me plant this grain of wheat?”

“Not us!” said the duck, the goose, the cat and the pig.

So, she asked Lehman’s: “Will you help me plant this grain of wheat?”

“We sure will!” said Lehman’s. “Here’s a cultivator to prepare the soil, a trowel to plant the grain and a watering can to help it grow!”

The wheat grew tall, and soon it was ready to be milled into flour.

“Who will help me mill the wheat into flour?” asked the Little Red Hen.

“Pfffft! Whatever!” said the duck, the goose, the cat and the pig.

“Then I will ask Lehman’s,” said the Little Red Hen. And she did. With Lehman’s Own Grain Mill, it was a snap!

Then the Little Red Hen asked, “Who will help me make the flour into dough?”

Not surprisingly, the duck, the goose, the cat and the pig were unwilling to offer their assistance.

But Lehman’s had all kinds of great bread-baking stuff, from mixing bowls to dough whisks to bread pans (plus, a  selection of cookbooks so the Little Red Hen could choose the BEST  recipe).

Soon the bread was ready to go into the oven.

“Who will help me bake the bread?” said the Little Red Hen.

Do you think the duck, the goose, the cat or the pig would help her? Nope.

Well, the Little Red Hen couldn’t just let that bread dough sit there. So, she took the plunge and invested in a beautiful wood cook stove.

She built a lovely fire, and when the oven was the right temperature, she baked the bread.

After the hot, crusty loaf had been taken from the oven, it was set on the windowsill to cool.

“And now,” said the Little Red Hen, “who will help me eat the bread?”

“That smells delicious! We will!” said the duck, the goose, the cat and the pig, with gusto!

“Hmmm…” said the Little Red Hen. “All right, I will share the bread with all of you. I think Lehman’s would want me to.”

So the Little Red Hen and her friends sat down, spread the bread with some fresh butter and some homemade jam and ate it, savoring every single bite.

And they lived happily ever after.
