The Ice Cream Bible at Lehmans.com

June’s a big month for us at Lehman’s. We’re smack in the middle of Ohio’s Amish Country, which means we’re surrounded by dairy farms. Dairy products are big business in our area of Ohio. But there’s one dairy product we love more than any other…ice cream!

And July’s National Ice Cream Month!

Why celebrate with boxes of stone-cold-frozen bricks from the grocery when it’s just as easy to make your own? Here at Lehman’s, we can offer you some of the easiest (and most enjoyable) ways to make your own ice creams. Ice creams that will be fresh, sweet, and homemade, exactly to the tastes of you and your family!

First, the mix

A good recipe is crucial. And we’ll be featuring some as July goes on, but to start, there’s always a great go-to choice: Lehman’s Homemade Ice Cream Mix. It’s a powder mix, so it’s stable, and it’s a proven recipe you can trust. Developed by the same Amish craftsman who builds our Best Ice Cream Freezers, you simply add the mix to the appropriate amount of sugar, fresh milk, rich cream and vanilla, and then pop it into your ice cream maker! This base makes a rich and velvety smooth vanilla ice cream. You can add your favorite seasonal fruit too. There are three quantity sizes to choose from: 4 quart, 6-quart or 20-quart.

Second, the freezer

Ice Cream Freezers
Heirloom quality with today’s technology. Choose 4, 6, or 8 quart freezers from Lehman’s in Kidron or from Lehmans.com.

There are more options for ice cream freezers now than ever before. For instance, our outstandingly popular Lehman’s Best Ice Cream Freezers, built for the ages with an oak tub, stainless steel freezing can, and a sturdy dasher and gear setup. Choose the 4, 6, or 8 quart size.

If you’re going old school, say, making ice cream at the reunion, everyone will want a chance to help turn the crank to make dessert with these smooth machines. The tub’s leakproof, with adjustable steel bands, so you’ll get the most mileage from the rock salt-and-ice mix packed around the tub that keeps your mixture cold and freezes your ice cream evenly.

In a similar style, you’ll find the White Mountain 6-quart ice cream makers: one is a traditional crank-people-powered model, and one has a super-quiet electric motor. If you want to make ice cream, but have other things to do, you’ll appreciate the motorized model.

Totes adorbs, as the youngsters say. Practical too! 1-Quart Ice Cream Freezer makes treats fast. At Lehman’s in Kidron, Ohio or at Lehmans.com.

The current favorite in the Lehman’s marketing office, though, is a futuristically styled, compact 1-Quart Ice Cream Freezer. Available in white, bright pink or lime green, it is undeniably darling. But don’t be fooled by the fashionable exterior.

Once you take the solid aluminum interior canister out of the freezer, and add one of the included ice cream recipes to it, you’ll have a tasty treat in no time! And you only have to stir it every 2-3 minutes, which introduces less air into the mixture, and gives you a very creamy product. It’s a great introduction for children who want to help in the kitchen. And…it’s no-mess. No ice, no salt. You just pour in your base and stir. The aluminum barrel does all the freezing work.

Third, serve it up!
First, you start with a good ice cream spade. Then, make sure the dish does the job.

metal ice cream bowls, six colors
You know you’ll use them for cereal and snacks too! Set of 6, at Lehman’s in Kidron, Ohio, or at Lehmans.com.

Let’s talk rainbow retro: Aluminum Ice Cream Bowls are back, and we have them! No worries about giving the children a sundae in one of these unbreakable, vibrantly colored bowls. And the metal bowl will keep the ice cream servings colder longer.

Still…there’s nothing like a real banana split, in a proper Banana Split Dish.

And if you really want to embrace the entire soda fountain theme, consider our selection of perfect dessert dishes (6 to a set!): Classic Soda Dishes, Old-Time Sundae Dishes, Classic Sundae Dishes, and Tulip Sundae Dishes. From a brownie belly-buster to a rich strawberry shake, they’re ideal–and charming.

National Ice Cream Month starts July 1! Are you ready? We sure are.

A Place in the Country (Part I)

Our city real estate agent thought we were out of our minds. We’d only looked at four other houses. Most people put more thought into buying a pair of socks. But we knew that this house would work for us.
